White House is currently in search for the best candidate to fill the position of United States of America Ambassador to Bucharest, the U.S. Embassy said on Friday on asked by Agerpres..
The Embassy also said it is currently waiting for an official answer from the White House.
Mark Gitenstein, who ended his term in office in December 2012, was the last Ambassador of the United States to Romania, with charges d’affaires Duane Butcher and Dean Thompson having taken care of the Embassy affairs ever since then.
The new Ambassador will be the ninth since 1989. The other U.S. Ambassadors accredited in Romania were the following: Alan Green (1989-1992); John R. Davis Jr. (1992-1994); Alfred Moses (1994-1997); James Rosapepe (1997-2001); Michael Guest (2001-2004); Jack Dyer Crouch II (2004-2005); Nicholas Taubman (2005-2009); Mark Gitenstein (2009-2012). Out of them, only two ambassadors were career diplomats – John R. Davis Jr. and Michael Guest, the other six being persons appointed by the Presidents of the United States from outside of the diplomatic system, an often practice of reward for political friends.
