Gert Bervoets CEO, H.Essers: Romania is a very important strategic country for further geographical expansion

Mr. Bervoets, please inform our readers about the range of logistics and transportation services provided to business partners by your Company?

During the years, H.Essers has developed its scope of services.

From a general cargo transport company, we have evolved to a premium logistics provider with a focus on creating added value for specific segments in the market, being chemicals, pharma and high value goods.

We are constantly specializing ourselves in these segments, investing in innovative processes and services. Because many of our customers are world players, we also keep on expanding geographically so that we can give them the best services they need for their supply chain.

Our scope of services consists out of 4 pillars:

With a logistical capacity of over 925,000 m², H.Essers is the largest player in Belgium. We are the only Belgian company with two warehouses with a high Seveso threshold level and three warehouses with a low Seveso threshold level. This makes H.Essers the market leader in dangerous goods logistics, next to the company’s leadership in markets as pharma, healthcare and dangerous goods.

H.Essers offers its clients both dedicated and non-dedicated warehousing capacity, depending on the volume and risk, in order to ensure optimum cost management.

Value Added Services

H.Essers has developed a wide range of innovative and cost saving value added services.

Our VAS-services go beyond the classical labelling and packaging activities, as they are also about advanced and targeted activities, automated or conceptual.

We collaborate with private people or with permanent partners in a structural joint venture. Our view is always on the most optimal logistics chain for the customer, or for the entire sector. A small selection from our offering: shop-ready making of goods, cutting of cables and plates, testing of routers, packing of chocolates, unidosing blisters, wiping of computers, …

.Essers provides efficient and high-quality solutions from 39 strategic locations in 11 countries for all Pan-European transport demands, ranging from 1 kg to full loads.

Some of the services we provide include: groupage, LTL and FTL shipments, temperature-controlled transport, ADR transport, container transport, high-security transport, air freight and exceptional transport.

Forwarding & Customs

From our central office in Antwerp, H.Essers offers worldwide services in LCL and FCL, via an extended global partner network. On a global scale, we rely on sound and experienced agents, enabling not only a port-to-port service, but even a complete and global door-to-door concept.

Besides that, H.Essers has a wide range of multifunctional customs-depots on strategic locations. As we are AEO certified agent, we store and handle the goods of our customers smoothly and following all customs legislation.

What is H.Essers’  position in Central and Eastern Europe?

A first big step for H.Essers onto the Eastern European market was the acquisition of Centrum Transport back in 2004.

The first years in Eastern Europe we rented our warehouses, but now we are actively investing in our own assets (cfr our newly built 30.000 sqm warehouse in Bucharest)

Today, Romania is not only our second home base, but it is also a very important strategic country for further geographical expansion.

Over the years we have evolved from a star shaped transport model with Belgium in the center (for general cargo, pharma and high security) to a more advanced triangle model, with Romania as second hub and Lituania, Turkey and Romania as important gateways to all other Eastern regions.

We do not only perform road transport towards the Eastern European region, but also rail is winning territory.  Currently, there are five trains a week running between Belgium (Genk) and Romania (Curtici). This intermodal line between Belgium and Romania has been running since 2006 and is covered in 38 hours. From Curtici we provide our own connections to Turkey (with our own local partner) and connections to Greece. Through our partnership, we have a distribution network of 28 hubs in Turkey which enables us to almost double the volume of full loads there and back again.

Furthermore we are developing LTL and groupage services for pharma products towards CEE and ME countries and expanding our offer of value added services.
