Agricultural goods trade registers surplus of EUR 500 M in 2014

Overall, 2014 was a good year for agriculture and we registered a surplus of EUR 500 M in the trade with agricultural goods, compared to a surplus of EUR 300 M in 2013, Agriculture Minister Daniel Constantin stated on Tuesday at a conference.

According to the minister, against the backdrop of wheat exports of 4.9 million tons Romania managed to enter other markets outside the EU too, such as the Arab states where exports grew by 75 per cent.

“In 2014 we exported 4.9 million tons of wheat, while the internal consumption needs totalled 3.5 – 4 million tons. Apart from the main partner that the EU is, we managed to expand on other markets too, such as the Arab states where we registered a 75 per cent growth in exports. Our target is to open new markets and to offer farmers the possibility of selling at the best price. Prices were somewhat lower compared to 2013,” the Agriculture Minister stated.

He also added that at EU level Romania was on the top places when it came to the production of wheat, maize, rapeseed and sunflower.
