The National Integrity Agency (ANI) is checking the personal fortune of the Governor of the National Bank of Romania (BNR) Mugur Isarescu, BNR Spokesman Dan Suciu reports.
In a phone-in on Friday to Antena 3 private broadcaster, he said an NGO filed a complaint with ANI over a loan taken out by Isarescu after he made a confusion in a public statement.
“This is not an action of ANI by virtue of office. It is a complaint filed by an NGO, which argues there is a discrepancy between Mr Governor’s wealth declarations and his public statements of two-three weeks or even a month ago, when he forgot about having taken out a loan from Volksbank (…) So, I do not expect things to take long, but that the situation will be clarified entirely. I know it started from this relative confusion following that statement. When the developments in that loan, its history, are being followed in successive wealth declarations, I believe things get extremely clear,” said Suciu quoted by Agerpres.
Suciu argued that there are no unclear things in the wealth statements filed by Mugur Isarescu.
“It was a loan taken out some day, but it was repaid in advance and after several years another loan was taken out. There are no unclear things. According to previous checking by ANI, no unclear things exits. The entire discussion started from that statement that was somehow … Mr Governor made a confusion pure and simple between banks in an unfortunate statement. Once again, his public statement is not an official document, but his wealth declarations are,” Suciu also said.
