American conductor Mark Stringer performs Giuseppe Verdi’s “Messa da Requiem” in Iasi on the Catholic Easter Sunday and Orthodox Palm Sunday

American conductor Mark Stringer is for the first time in Romania to perform Giuseppe Verdi’s “Messa da Requiem” at the “Vasile Alecsandri” National Theatre of Iasi.

I’m for the first time in Romania to lead a performance. At the Iasi Opera House I met an extraordinary team, extremely well trained artists. I am glad such a beautiful theater exists in Iasi and that some good work is done here. To me it’s a joy to work with the artists here, Mark Stringer told a news conference in Iasi this week.

Beatrice Rancea, manager of the Romanian National Opera of Iasi, said that the one-off show taking place on April 5 is organized on the occasion of Easter celebrations.

“The show is organized on the Catholic Easter Sunday and on Orthodox Palm Sunday, respectively. The concert will also honor the memory of bass opera singer Octavian Dumitru. To us it’s a great honor that Mr. Stringer has accepted the invitation to come to conduct in Iasi, the more so as this is a first for Romania,” said Beatrice Rancea quoted by Agerpres.

Performing in the show alongside the chorus and orchestra of the Iasi Romanian Opera will be soprano Ana Maria Donose, mezzo-soprano Florentina Onica, tenor Florin Guzga and bass Daniel Mateianu.

Mark Stringer was born in Alexandria, Virginia (U.S.A.) in 1964. He studied at the Juilliard School of Music, the Tanglewood Music Center and the Los Angeles Philharmonic Institute. His teachers include Leonard Bernstein, Seiji Ozawa, Simon Rattle and Michael Tilson Thomas.

Appointed Leopold Hager’s successor as Professor of Conducting at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts, Mark Stinger is frequently invited to give conducting masterclasses on the world’s greatest stages in St. Petersburg, Beijing, Shanghai, at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, the “Franz Liszt” University of Music in Weimar, the Vienna International Summer Academy and as part of the Dirigentenforum promotional program in Germany.

Stringer conducted concerts with the Vienna Symphony, NHK Symphony (Tokyo), Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic, Shanghai Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony, St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, BBC Orchestras of Wales and Scotland, Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg, Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine, RIAS Jugendorchester, Deutsches Symphonieorchester, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana and Brno State Philharmonic. Recently, Mark Stringer performed in New York with the Juilliard Orchestra and on the West Coast, with the San Francisco Ballet.
