A Romanian citizen and one family member were evacuated from Yemen on Sunday, the Spokesperson and Communication Directorate of the Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) informed in a release to Agerpres.
The MAE has updated on Sunday the information on the situation of the evacuation of Romanian citizens from Yemen. Four more Romanian citizens and a family member were evacuated on Saturday, besides the three Romanians working for a local company who were evacuated to Djibouti by a Chinese frigate on March 30 and subsequently repatriated. Fourteen Romanian experts of a Romanian company working in Yemen had arrived back in Romania on March 25.
The MAE is currently making constant efforts to support and aid Romanian citizens in the region, through the embassy in Abu Dhabi and in cooperation with the international organizations involved in the evacuation procedures and with the states that also have citizens in Yemen and are also acting to evacuate them.
There is a permanent contact with the representatives of the diplomatic missions of EU member states in the region, MAE added.
‘Before the beginning of the crisis, the Foreign Ministry’s website posted a travel warning on Yemen with a maximum alert level, namely ‘Major danger – immediately leave the region or country!’ The Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges again the Romanian citizens in conflict areas to contact Romania’s missions in those territories to register their presence, so that they can benefit of consular assistance and protection; also, to consult the information provided through the ‘Calatoreste in siguranta’ (Travel Safe) mobile app, downloadable on any smartphone, and through the SMS warning service within the information campaign ‘Un SMS iti poate salva viata!’ (One SMS could save your life’)’, the MAE reminds.
