Bear cub captured in Sibiu

Officers of the Emergency Situations Inspectorate (ISU) on Monday morning captured a bear cub in an uninhabited area of Sibiu, after it ran for several hours on the streets of this city in central Romania.

“We got five calls at the emergency number 112 from Sibiu people who told us they saw the bear cub. It was located and we asked for the help of a veterinarian of the zoo, with a tranquilizer gun,” ISU spokesperson Bianca Sabau told Agerpres.

No one has complained so far of being wounded by the young bear.

This was the first time a wild bear was seen on the streets of Sibiu; such incidents have often occurred in the city of Brasov, 140 kilometres east.
