Yemen evacuations continue: Another 10 Romanian citizens and a family member moved out on Sunday

Another 10 Romanian citizens and a family member were evacuated on Sunday from Yemen, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) informed in a release to Agerpres.

According to the cited document, a group of seven Romanian nationals were evacuated from Yemen to Khartoum (Sudan) aboard a plane of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

“This is the first take-off in the last four days during which all flights planned by the International Organization for Migration together with the European Union to evacuate foreigners from Yemen were canceled because of the absence of the overflying permission from the competent authorities of the Republic of Yemen,” the cited source says.

Through the Romanian diplomatic missions in Abu Dhabi and Khartoum, the Foreign Ministry has maintained permanent contact with the authorities in the region, with the 7 Romanian citizens and with IOM, monitoring the evacuees throughout their route from Yemen (Sana’a) to Khartoum, reads the document. The Romanian citizens received assistance from IOM with the aircraft boarding formalities.

According to the Foreign Ministry release, another group of four – three Romanians and a family member with Yemeni citizenship – were safely evacuated by land from Taiz to Saudi Arabia, and have been in permanent contact with the Romanian Embassy in Abu Dhabi throughout their journey.

“The Romanian Embassy in Riyadh (Saudi Arabia) and the Romanian Embassy in Khartoum (Sudan) will take over the Romanian citizens and will provide them the necessary assistance and consular protection. The Foreign Ministry continues efforts for the safe evacuation of the Romanian citizens from Yemen and stays in permanent contact with them and with all the competent authorities in the region. Today’s evacuations were made possible by the combined efforts of the dedicated task force activated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and of the four Romanian diplomatic missions in Abu Dhabi, Khartoum, Riyadh and Cairo,” the release reads.

As many as 35 Romanian citizens and 4 family members were evacuated so far since the beginning of the Yemen crisis.
