Head of court executors arrested for tax evasion

Dorina Gont, the President of the Chamber of Court Executors of the Bucharest Court of Appeal, was arrested together with three other people on Wednesday. She is investigated into in a case of tax evasion worth EUR 3 M.

The judges of the Bucharest Court of Appeal supported the prosecution’s proposal and remanded Dorina Gont in custody. The same measure was taken against Radu Abagiu, Adrian Mihai and businessman Ciprian Nistor, who allegedly controlled various offshore companies into the accounts of which proceeds of tax evasion were wired.

Over 70 police forces coordinated by the prosecutors of the Bucharest Court of Appeal conducted a total of 15 domiciliary searches in Bucharest and Ilfov and Ialomita Counties, at persons suspected of tax evasion. Two residential addresses used by the souses Dorina and Lucian Gont were also searched.

The investigators started procedures for freezing five properties and bank accounts of the court executor Dorina Gont, according to Police sources. The quoted sources say those are luxury residential properties, some in Ilfov County, in the localities of Afumati, Popesti Leordeni and Corbeanca.

According to the Romanian Police, the investigators target the criminal activity of the workers of a court executors practice and representatives of dozens of companies, suspected of tax evasion by recording fictitious commercial operations.

Because of the offences committed from 2011 to 2014, the consolidated state budget suffered an approximate loss of EUR 3 M, according to the Romanian Police.
