Public administration trade unions announce general strike on April 30

The National Public Administration Unions Federation plans staging a general strike on April 30 and a rally in Bucharest on May 27; as a next step, public administration services will go on indefinite strike in the second half of the year, the Federation informed Agerpres on Friday in a release.

“The National Public Administration Unions Federation, convened in meeting of the Federal Bureau to analyze the outcomes of the April 23 meeting with Government representatives on the claims of employees of the local public administration, having found that the Romanian Government has treated them with the same indifference, has decided the following: to organize a general strike of Romania’s local public administration on April 30; to organize a rally in Bucharest on May 27, 2015, with the participation of at least 3,000 union members; to start procedures to collect signatures for going on an indefinite strike in the second half of 2015,” the release shows.

The claims of the union members envisage the regulation and award, as of 2015, of meal vouchers or of meal allowances for all the employees in local public administration, within the local budgets approved by council decision, provided that these institutions also make revenues of their own and are partially financed from such sources; wage rises for the employees in local public administration, or the enforcement, beginning with 2015, of Law No. 284/2010 on the unitary pay of publicly paid personnel.
