Trade union members in the public administration will stop their work today to protest at the Government having failed to implement the law of uniform public pay.
Deputy Chairman of the Cartel Alfa National Trade Unions Confederation Petru Dandea says more than 30,000 people nationwide will go on a general strike on April 30.
“We have tried to find solutions through a dialogue with the Government, but we have failed so far to reach common ground. More than 20 pay classes are either on the threshold of the average wage and even falling under. Nearly 25 per cent of the public administration is paid less than the minimum wage of RON 1,000. Postponing the law is completely outrageous as far as we are concerned,” Dandea told a news conference on Tuesday.
The strike should start with the start of the open hours and last throughout the work day.
Up to 600 employees will be protesting before the Bucharest City General Mayoralty House, 10:00hrs-12:00hrs.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, CNS Cartel Alfa says other grievances of the trade unionists regard regulating and liberalising as of this year the award of luncheon tickets or food bonuses for all the employees of the local public administrations, within the limits of their budgets, as long as they derive own income and are partially funded by such income. The unionists also demand pay rises or the implementation of Law 284/2010 on uniform public pay.
“CNS Cartel ALFA is backing up the grievances of all the administration employees that promote a uniform pay policy and the observance of the equal pay for equal work principle, the principle of decent work and participative social dialogue,” says Cartel ALFA Chairman Bogdan Hossu quoted by Agerpres.
