Prosecutors conduct 21 searches in Iasi County into corruption allegations

Prosecutors of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) are conducting searches today in 21 Iasi County locations, three of which are main offices of public organisations, over allegations of corruption since the beginning of the year.

“Prosecutors of the National Anticorruption Directorate, the Corruption Combat Department, are conducting searches in a case that relates to suspicions of corruption-like offences committed since the beginning of 2015. On April 30, following court authorisation, domiciliary visits are being conducted in 21 locations of Iasi County, three of which are main offices of public organisations and the remaining main offices of commercial companies and private residents,’ DNA reports in a press release issued on Thursday.

Judiciary sources told Agerpres that the searches include the Iasi City Hall and the private residence of Iasi Mayor Gheorghe Nichita (photo) , along with the local Police and their leaders.

In this case, DNA is provided specialist assistance from the Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) and the Special Intervention Brigade of the Gendarmerie.
