President Klaus Iohannis signed on Thursday the decree on the award of the National Order of the “Star of Romania” with Collar to Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Pope Francis’s Secretary of State.
According to the Presidential Administration, at the 25th anniversary of the restoration of diplomatic relations between Romania and the Holy See, “in sign of high appreciation for his special contribution to the development of relations between the two states, to the steady promotion of peace, humanism, tolerance and interfaith dialogue,” the head of the state awarded the National Order “Star of Romania” with Collar to Cardinal Pietro Parolin.
President Iohannis also signed a decree for the decoration of several Holy See officials.
Thus, in sign of high appreciation for his contribution to the development of relations between the two states, for the constant promotion of interfaith dialogue, and for his support to the Romanian communities outside country borders, the Romanian head of state bestowed the National Order of the “Star of Romania” in the rank of Grand Officer on Monsignor Giovanni Angelo Becciu, Archbishop, Substitute for General Affairs to the Secretary of State; and on Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher, Archbishop, Secretary for Relations with States with the Holy See’s Secretariat of State.
President Iohannis also conferred the National Order of the “Star of Romania” in the rank of Commodore on Monsignor Georg Ganswein, Archbishop, prefect of the Papal Household; the National Order of the “Star of Romania” in the rank of Officer on Monsignor Peter Bryan Wells, assessor for General Affairs with the Secretariat of State; on Monsignor Antoine Camilleri, Under-Secretary for Relations with States – Secretariat of State; and on Monsignor Jose Avelino Bettencourt, Chief of Protocol with the Secretariat of State.
The National Order of the “Star of Romania” in the rank of Knight is awarded to Monsignor Marcel Smejkal, Nunciature advisor – Secretariat of State; and to Monsignor Guillermo Javier Karcher, Papal Master of Ceremonies – Secretariat of State.
President Iohannis also awarded the National Order of “Faithful Service” with Grand Cross to Cardinal Gualtiero Bassetti, Archbishop of Perugia – Citta della Pieve; the National Order of “Faithful Service” in rank of Grand Officer to Monsignor Maurizio Malvestiti, Bishop of Lodi; the National Order of “Faithful Service” in the rank of Commodore to Monsignor Marcello Semeraro, Bishop of Albano; and to Monsignor Leonardo Sapienza, RCI, Regent of the Papal Household.
Prince Mariano Hugo of Windisch-Graetz, Gentleman of His Holiness, was awarded the “For Merit” National Order in the rank of Grand Officer, while Brother Dr. Rene Stockman, Superior General of the Congregation of the Brothers of Charity, and Professor Giuseppe Tedeschi, Addetto di Anticamera of His Holiness were awarded the “For Merit” National Order in the rank of Commodore.
The awards were made at the proposal of Foreign Affairs Minister Bogdan Aurescu, Agerpres informs.
