Gulf companies welcomed to privatize TAROM

* Premier Ponta: I made an offer to Qatar Airways concerning the Otopeni Airport – TAROM package

Premier Victor Ponta announced on Sunday in Doha that during his meeting with the CEO of Qatar Airways he presented an offer concerning an investment in the Otopeni Airport – Tarom airline package, Agerpres informs.

“I met and held political-level discussions with the CEO of Qatar Airways, informing him of our desire to list Bucharest’s Otopeni Airport, to restructure and save TAROM. (…) Bucharest is one of the regional airports that have developed the most, but it continues to need investments because it is already starting to reach its infrastructure limits. (…) I want us to proceed with a listing as soon as possible, which means private capital that will remain within the company (…) in order to expand the airport. And, in a package with the airport, which naturally means services for all the airlines that operate flights in Bucharest, we are looking for a partner for TAROM,” Ponta announced in a conference in Doha.

He added that at this moment the main investor can be one of the companies from the Gulf region since “European companies have their own problems and are not willing to invest in TAROM.”

The Premier announced that in the following days he will make similar offers to the Emirates and Etihad airlines, reminding that he has already discussed with the leadership of Turkish Airlines while in Bucharest.
