The National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) says its prosecutors have detained on Thursday night the Iasi County Council’s president, Cristian Adomnitei, for 24 hours for favoring the offender and forgery.
Iasi County Council Chairman Cristian Adomnitei and two other employees were detained by the National Anti-corruption Directorate (DNA) prosecutors and taken in for hearings in Iasi. Adomnitei was stopped in traffic, while the other two county council employees were detained at the institution’s headquarters.
Cristian Adomnitei, targeted by the DNA’s corruption probe, stated recently that he does not feel responsible for the manner in which a contract on promoting the county was awarded to a Iasi-based company, arguing that he is not part of the tender commission and does not know what companies are declared tender winners.
Adomnitei also stated that he does not feel hounded by judicial institutions but that PSD wants him to disappear from Iasi.
While Adomnitei was in Brussels, DNA prosecutors conducted 21 searches, 19 of them at the headquarters of the Iasi County Council. The searches, part of a case concerning corruption and forgery committed in 2013-2015, focused on the offices of the Economic Directorate, the Financial-Accounting Service and the Procurements Directorate.
Liberal Adomnitei is to be presented on Friday to the Iasi Court with proposal of 30-day preventive detention.
