Caras Severin CJ Vice-President caught while taking bribe

The Vice-President of Caras Severin County Council, Ionesie Ghiorghioni (PNL), was caught by the National Anticorruption Directorate |(DNA) prosecutors while he was taking bribe in his Resita office.

The bribe was RON 20,000, representing 20% of the value of a contract that was going to be awarded to a certain person.

Mediafax quotes judicial sources as saying that the money was inside a magazine and handed over by the businessman who was going to be favoured.

DNA states in a communiqué posted on the institution website that DNA Timisoara were performing investigations on Tuesday in a penal case involving suspicions regarding the commission of corruption offences from January 2013 to March 2015. On Tuesday, six addresses in Resita and other localities in Caras Severin County were searched one Tuesday. One address was the headquarter if a public institution, DNA further states.

Ionesie Ghiorghioni was brought to DAN Timisoara to be questioned.

‘For the time being, the investigation has started for only two offences of influence peddling regarding the award of contracts’, said the lawyer of the Vice-President of Caras Severin County Council, Cosmin Bolosin, quoted by ‘Opinia Timisoarei’.

The quoted source also states that, in his financial disclosure form, the Liberal mentioned over 200 he of forest and 2.5 he of land, two houses and a flat.

Aged 62, Ghiorghioni was a PDL Deputy from 2004 to 2008. The CARAS Severin County Council is headed by another ex-Democrat-Liberal, currently Liberal, Sorin Frunzaverde.
