Carmen Iohannis sued three institutions of the state

Carmen Iohannis, the wife of the Head of the State, sued three institutions of the state. Romania’s First Lady demands these institutions to grant her the salary increases left unpaid since 2008.

The Teachers’ Union of the Gheorghe Lazar High School in Sibiu gained in Court, in 2011, the payment of salary increases adopted by the Parliament in 2008, but never paid by the Government.

Yet, the measure was never applied in the case of the present First Lady, as she had not been a member of the Union. Accompanied by a few other colleagues in the same situation, Carmen Iohannis started a separate trial against the High School, against the County Schools Inspectorate and against the Sibiu County Council.

“The colleagues that were not members of the Union rightfully noticed that they do not receive the corrections owed to them based on the same law. We understood that our colleagues at the Lazar High School, a group of eight or not persons, if I am not mistaken, including Ms. Carmen Iohannis, will be seeking justice in Court, and they are right to do so”, Teodor Fartonea, the leader of the Union declared.

“The payment of salary differences is based on the execution titles of the verdicts and, respectively, sentences by judges”, said Livia Cretulescu, spokesperson of the Sibiu County Schools Inspectorate.

The next appointment in the trial was established by the Sibiu Court on May 18. Carmen Iohannis had had another trial with the officials three years ago, while her husband was the Mayor of Sibiu”.

“Carmen Iohannis, teacher of the “Gheorghe Lazăr” High School in Sibiu, had previously sued the state in the year 2012, as well, yet she failed to earn all the money she had demanded. An estimative calculation based on Ms. Iohannis’ experience as a teacher shows that, if the First Lady wins this trial, she will be paid over RON 15,000”,  Adela Mohanu, reporter for Digi24, announced.

According to the wealth declaration published by Klaus Iohannis on the website of the Romanian Presidency, his wife has earned, in 2013, as an English teacher, an annual sum of approximately RON 26,000.
