Resigning minister Dragnea rejects Liberals’ “lectures on honour”

Former aRegional development  Minister Liviu Dragnea, who resigned on Friday after he got a one-year suspended prison sentence, rebuked the leaders of the National Liberal Party (PNL) leaders for their tardive request of his resignation and for their lectures on honour.

“I have read with great surprise the release of those of the PNL who asked the prime minister to dismiss me, after I had submitted my resignation at 10am. With all due respect, I cannot accept lectures on honour and dignity from the current leadership of the PNL. Never,” Dragnea declared at the headquarters of the ruling Social Democrat Party (PSD).

He mentioned that his resignation from the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Administration was registered at the Government, according to the procedure, and added he will keep his PSD membership and see later, next week, how he could still help the party.

Dragnea also said he will accompany Prime Minister Victor Ponta this weekend to Craiova and Targu Jiu, to commission two projects on which he has worked a lot – the football arenas in the two county seats. “I have asked Craiova Mayor Olguta  Vasilescu to host the event in Craiova right on the field. I want to take a small piece of fresh turf, because it is imbibed with legends,” he concluded.

PNL has on Friday requested the resignation from the Government of Liviu Dragnea, after the justices with the High Court of Cassation and Justice (ICCJ, the Supreme Court) have sentenced the Development minister to one year probation in the ‘Referendum’ criminal file. The decision is not final.

Dragnea has announced his resignation from minister of Regional Development and Public Administration, adding that next Monday he will resign from the PSD executive president, too.

PM Ponta: Only cowards, fakers at National Liberal Party’s head!

Prime minister, Victor Ponta said on Friday, after the liberals have demanded for Liviu Dragnea’s resignation from the Government, that at the head of the National Liberal Party (PNL) ‘only cowards and fakers’ have remained, reminding that the PNL was alongside the PSD at the 2012 referendum for the then president Basescu’s suspension.

‘Now it is confirmed that at the head of the PNL only cowards and fakers have remained! Weren’t there the PNL in 2012 – alongside Dragnea and the entire USL (Social Liberal Union) – that did initiated, voted and promoted the suspension of president Basescu and the referendum for his sacking? Weren’t there the PNL leaders who have campaigned side by side with us urging the people to come to vote? Aren’t you all in the Parliament on the back of the 7.4 million of Romanians? It’s obvious there are no liberals in the PNL leadership – only painted PDL (Liberal Democrat Party) members! Shame on you!’ wrote the Prime minister on his Facebook page.
