Komotini is the administrative, financial and cultural center of the Rodopi county. In the center of the town visitors can observe the remains of the Byzantine fortifications dating back to the 4th century. Other attractions : Archaeological

Not so far away from Komotini you will find Maroneia. Here you’ll be conquered by the beautiful landscape of olive groves that stretch as far as you can see and then finally meet the sea. Through the olive groves, at Maroneia, you will discover the Ancient Theater. It was constructed in the Hellenistic period and remodeled in Roman times.
Porto Lagos is a small costal and lakeside village. It is located close to Vistonida Lake and by the Aegean Sea. Here you can visit St. Nicolas Monastery.
Lake Vistonida is separated from the sea by a narrow strait created from silt depositions and is connected to it through canals. In this area you will find over 300 bird species. Some of them are little egret, flamingos, pygmy cormorant etc.
Very close to this paradise, surrounded by it, there is a small intimate resort. Fanari is actually a fishing village famous for its port. Fanari Beach has been awarded the Blue Flag, certifying its excellent waters.
25 km from here there is Xanthi. The town is located by the Rodopi mountain chain. It is a beautiful city. The Old Town architectural style is a blend of local and ottoman architecture as well as Greek Neoclassicism architectural style. There is also a modern part of the city where you can admire a beautiful square with a Clock and the renovated tobacco warehouses.
In Xanthi there are many things to do. You can visit the Folk Art Museum, the Natural History Museum, the Municipal Gallery or Advera Archaeological site. There is a special place in Xanthi : the House of Shadow, a magic place created by Triantafyllos Vaitsis.
Action fans and nature lovers will be happy to try one of this : kayaking, rafting in Nestos passes, hiking, cycling, bird watching, archery, off-road driving and horseback riding. These are only a few of the activities that someone can pursue in Nestos, Livaditis or Vistonida area.
