Nearly 30 museums, among which, as a first, the National Bank of Romania Museum, and 20 cultural organizations will be open on the Night of Museums 2015 in Bucharest, on Saturday night, ready to offer visitors a diverse programme of events that includes exhibitions, children’s workshops, concerts, film projections, as well as ballet and pantomime shows.
This year’s edition will be a special one, being marked by a protest initiated by the National Network of Museums of Romania (RNMR), the organizers of the Night of Museums.
Thus, the participating museums will present one notable item of their collections draped in black cloth, in order to raise awareness with the visitors that the object may become inaccessible for viewing in the near future due to the rate by which museums and museum collections are disappearing due to restitution cases.
The event will see the participation of the National Art Museum of Romania that offers up for visits the National Gallery as well as secondary galleries, as well as the picture frames of pictures ordered to be restituted recently. Furthermore, the Art Collection Museum will offer up the exhibition “Art treasures of prof. I. Chiricuta’s collection”.
The National History Museum of Romania will participate in the event by organizing workshops of museum education, a parade of vintage costumes, themed guides in the permanent and temporary exhibitions of the museum, as well as music and dance shows.
The National Literature Museum of Romania will open up to visitors the Tudor Arghezi Memorial Home, while the Bucharest City Museum will open up, for the first time, eight museum buildings: The Victor Babes Museum, the Ligia and Pompiliu Macovei Museum, the Frederic Storck and Cecilia Cutescu Storck Museum, the C. I. and C. C. Nottara Memoriam Museum, and the Maria and George Severeanu Museum, all open from 18.00hrs up until 2.00hrs.
As it has each year the Night of Museums was organized, the National Grigore Antipa Natural History Museum will be marking the event with a series of special events. As such, Digi Animal World will also be present this year at the Night of Museum and will offer visitors a special program consisting of unique competitions and workshops, documentary film premieres, but also many other surprises.
The National Romanian Peasant’s Museum will offer the permanent and temporary exhibitions to visitors, as well as open-air projections and demonstrations and workshops in weaving, pottery, woodcarving, icon painting and easter egg painting.
The National Maps and Old Books Museum will host the exhibition “Armenia in old cartography”, the exhibition being attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to Romania, Hamlet Gasparian.
The National Bank of Romania Museum will present, between 19,00hrs and 23,00 hrs, an unique mini-exhibition titled Gold from the Thesaurus, that will present to the visitors its start exhibits, the thesaurus gold ingots.
The Dimitrie Gusti National Village Museum will welcome visitors to the “Afternoon of Museums”, the guests being invited to admire traditional music and dance shows, as well as take part in creation workshops and the fair organized for artisans.
The National Cotroceni Museum, the George Enescu National Museum, as well as the National Centre for Dance, the National Romanian Aviation Museum and the National Brancovian Palace Center in Mogosoaia will all welcome visitors with unique exhibits, the latter even offering a Klezmer music show performed by actress Maia Morgenstern, Agerpres informs.
Iohannis invites Bucharesters to visit Cotroceni National Museum and all Romanians to attend Night of Museums
President Klaus Iohannis has launched, on Saturday, a call to all Romanians to attend the Night of Museums event as a way to rediscover the national patrimony and has addressed to Bucharesters especially the invitation to visit the Cotroceni National Museum on the grounds of the Cotroceni Palace, the seat of the presidency.
“I urge you to rediscover proudly our patrimony! Let us protect cultural values and support every demarche that sheds light on our values. The Night of Museums is a good opportunity to regard our wealth of culture. On this occasion, I invite you to visit the Cotroceni National Museum, an important monument of architecture and a landmark institution”, said the President on facebook.
