Another criminal file for ex-President Traian Basescu

Magistrates of District 2 Court confirmed on Tuesday the decision of General Prosecutors’ Office team to reopen legal pursuit in the “Mihaileanu House” file that also involves ex-President Traian Basescu.

Prosecutors restarted legal pursuit in the case of five files onTraian Basescu, such as the one regarding the way the former President has purchased the building located on the Stefan Mihaileanu street in Bucharest.

In the year 2002, while being General Mayor of Bucharest, Traian Basescu was granted the right to rent a villa on Stefan Mihaileanu street; later, in 2003, he submitted a request to buy an entire floor of the building, for the sum of USD 19,000, a request approved by the Bucharest Mayoralty.

Traian Basescu was accused at that time of having no right to purchase a residence from the state because he had owned a house bought in Bucharest in 2002, a house he had donated to his daughter.

In the year 2005, the General Prosecutors’ Office ordered the ceasing of the legal pursuit on Traian Basescu, on the allegations of abuse of office, forgery and false statements. Traian Basescu’s lawyer in this case was at that time , presently in house arrest.
