Turkish Airlines to take over TAROM?

On the public television channel’s stiri.tvr.ro website one can find a piece of news according to which the TAROM national airline could be taken over by Turkish Airlines, one of the most dynamic airlines in Europe.

The authors claim that their sources already point out that negotiations are taking place at the highest level over the sale of a minority share package. The capital inflow would help the Romanian airline pay off its debts. The Romanian state could sell up to 49 per cent of its shares. The foreign company’s interests are very clear. The company wants to raise the number of Bucharest-Istanbul flights and hopes TAROM would bring passengers from Europe for transit toward Asia, Africa or America.

The Turkish General Consul in Constanta stated that Turkish Airlines is doing everything possible to take over TAROM.

The official reaction of Transport Ministry officials is expected.
