Kovacs Peter was elected by 53 votes to 21 Executive Chairman of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) in Targu Mures, on Saturday, in the meeting of the Union Representatives’ Council.
He was proposed for this position by UDMR Chairman Kelemen Hunor.
In his turn, Kovacs Peter, according to the regulations, proposed the seven executive chairs whom he will work with: Magyari Tivadar on education, Hegedus Csilla – culture, Bodor Laszlo – leader for UDMR national programmes, Szekely Istvan – on social issues and the department also working on cultural autonomy, Iliyes Gyulla – public local administration, and for the two new departments: Nagy Zoltan, for territorial organisations, and Gered Imre, for the youth department, the Council going to make a decision on the proposals in question.
Before making the proposal for the UDMR executive chairman position, Kelemen Hunor said that the Union has very many objectives planned and that is why a new structure is needed, granting an increased attention to local organisations.
Kelemen Hunor said that a rethinking of the local organisations on a town and city level is needed and that there is room for improvement in regards to education, therefore UDMR wants to expand the range of the programmes proposed.
