The ex-head of the National Integrity Agency (ANI), Horia Georgescu, currently under arrest, has asked the Court for permission to be next to his wife when she gives birth. The ex-integrity chief wants a 24-h permission to be there’re when his twins are born, Realitatea TV informs.
It seems that Georgescu complained to the magistrates that the business of his wife, who is a notary public, had been going bad since his arrest. Another reason of dissatisfaction for the former ANI chief was that his studies had also been affected since the arrest.
Horia Georgescu, ex-ANI President, is under investigation for three offences of abuse of office with especially grievous consequences. The authorities charged him for the fact that, while serving as a member of the Commission that determined damages to be paid to former owners of confiscated properties, he approved compensations for over-valuated properties. The state suffered damages amounting to over EUR 80 M in that way.
The former Mayor of Bucharest District 5, Marian Vanghelie (photo), received a piece of bad news on Tuesday, when the High Court decided to keep the suspended mayor under arrest, declining his appeal against the previous Court decision that refused his request to be placed on house arrest for the duration of the investigations.
Vanghelie was arrested on 14 March on charges of abuse of power, bribery and money laundering.
