Agriculture Ministry sets up agency to promote Romanian products

Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Daniel Constantin has announced that he plans to set up an agency for the promotion of Romanian products.

‘We need to find new selling markets for Romanian products besides the domestic market. I am trying and hoping to manage with your help, because there is a legislative obstacle, to rectify the existing legislative problems so that we may establish an agency for the promotion of Romanian products abroad. I want to set up the agency not as a Government-run agency, like many others that do not work, but under a public-private partnership. We have today at our embassies trade attaches, and we will shortly have agricultural attaches as well. The first such attache will be dispatched in Doha, then in Beijing, China. I believe we have to stimulate the people on such economic missions and such an agency, with logistics costs covered by the government, including salaries for the employees, so that you as private investors will pay commission fees to those who manage to sell the products. I believe that will be an agreed formula,’ Constantin explained at the Meat&Milk International Conference taking place in Poiana Brasov.

The new entity will operate as a public-private partnership (PPP). “It’s true that at this moment the PPP law is not working as we would like it to work, but I am confident that in the following period we will manage to come up with those legislative changes that would make it operational,” Minister Daniel Constantin added.

The opening of new markets for Romanian agricultural products is the constant preoccupation of the Agriculture Ministry, while the boosting of processed goods exports that have high added value has been included in the “Medium and long-term strategy on the development of the agriculture sector 2020-2030,” which stipulates that these exports should represent 80 per cent of total exports.
