Ioan Oltean prosecuted in corruption case

MP Ioan Oltean was interviewed by the DNA Oradea prosecutors for half an hour on Thursday, in a corruption case where he was prosecuted.

Currently a PNL MP, Ioan Oltean reported to DNA accompanied by his lawyer and did not make any statements when he arrived to DNA Oradea.

Ioan Oltean was questioned in the case of the Vie-President of Bihor County Council, Alexandru Kiss, charged with bribery, influence peddling, abuse of power and money laundering, according to digi24.ro.

The National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) announced in September 2013 that criminal investigation had begun against Ioan Oltean, PDL President in Bistrita-Nasaud and Vice-President of the party at a national level at the time, for using the influence or authority coming with his office for obtaining money, goods o other benefits for self or for others and for aiding and abetting.

According to DNA, Ioan Oltean was also investigated on an aiding and abetting suspicion. The prosecutors claim that on the night of 22 March 2012, he informed two people that the following day DNA was going to search their homes in a case where they were under investigation for corruption offences in connection with tendering procedure and contracts awarded by Bistrita County Council.

Currently Co-president of PNL Bistrita, Ioan Oltean is at his sixth term in Parliament. In 1996/1997 he was also the Minster of Waters, Forests and Environment Protection.
