Chamber Speaker Zgonea: Decision on PM Ponta in a fortnight, censure motion hopeless

The Legal Committee of the Chamber of Deputies has 14 days to come up with a report on the General Prosecutor’s request to open an investigation against Prime Minister Victor Ponta, the Chamber Speaker Valeriu Zgonea declared on Saturday.

The Standing Bureau of the Chamber has forwarded the request to the Committee on Friday, and the Committee could convene at the earliest on Monday.

Also on Friday, the Liberal opposition filed at the Parliament a censure motion against Ponta’s Government. Zgonea said on Saturday the motion had no chance to pass and would not gather more than 200 votes, far less than the necessary minimum; he called it a mere “image exercise.”
