Sources: Klaus Iohannis to convene CSAT meeting following DNA probe against Ponta

Sources from the Presidential Administration, quoted by news channels, state that President Klaus Iohannis will convene a Supreme Defence Council (CSAT) meeting on Tuesday against the backdrop of the criminal probe in which Premier Victor Ponta is involved, stiripesurse.ro informs.

The CSAT meeting will take place just a day after President Klaus Iohannis and the leaders of political parties represented in Parliament will hold consultations over the country’s defence strategy, but also against the backdrop in which the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) has started a criminal probe against Premier Victor Ponta, who is also Vice President of CSAT.

President Iohannis stated on Friday that he will hold talks with the political parties on the issue of the political crisis that the Premier’s situation can generate. In this context, the issue could be raised within the CSAT too, the Premier’s resignation being seen by some analysts as a dangerous destabilization of Romania in a tense geopolitical context.
