BIAS 2015 – 12 hours of non-stop flying, air shows and guests from three continents

Aviation lovers are expected on Saturday for 12 hours of non-stop flying at the Bucharest International Air Show 2015, BIAS-2015, where ultra-light aircraft, gliders and even military aircraft are expected to perform.

“Organising the event each year takes assiduous work, but we already are a united team, we work perfectly and this year we will put up 12 hours of non-stop flying because there will be very many performances. We have selected all that is the best and the schedule is quite tight. There are rehearsals today until 17:00hrs. We are closely following the weather developments and for the time being the weather looks nice. If special problems arise, we will postpone the air show until Sunday, but this is not the case for the time being,” General Manager of the Romanian Air Club George Rotaru told journalists on Friday at the BIAS opening news conference.

Manager of the Bucharest Airports Corporation, BIAS organiser, Valentin Iordache invited all the aviation buffs to come to BIAS. Public access will start on Saturday morning at 08:00hrs.

“Tomorrow, there will be many aircraft and airplanes in the Bucharest City’s skies. The official start is at 10:00hrs, while public access starts at 08:00hrs. There will be virtually no break until 22:00hrs, when a concert is scheduled. The most important shows will be performed by the pilots of Turkish Stars, Baltic Bees, US Air Force, Royal Air Force, Pakistan’s Air Force, which means guests from three continents complete with their equipment, the air units of Romania’s Interior Ministry and Intelligence Service and, at the end, the Romanian Air Club, which will display its best, along with Acrobatic Icarus,” said Iordache, according to Agerpres.

Among the guests of the air shows on Saturday are officers of the British Royal Air Force (RAF), who came to Bucharest aboard three Typhoons.

Wing Commander James Heald, Officer Commanding 29(R) Squadron, RAF Coningsby, said his team came the day before with three one-place Typhoon aircraft, one of which will be on static display at the weekend in the event. He added that he hoped they could take the first rehearsal on Friday at 15:00hrs and the next day they could put up two performances before returning home. There will be an eight-minute very loud demonstration for which nearly three tonnes of fuel will be used, flying at 110-600 knots,” said Heald.

Aircraft belonging to the Romanian, US and Portuguese Air Forces will participate on Saturday in the Bucharest International Airshow 2015 – BIAS 2015, on the Aurel Vlaicu International Airport.

MiG-21 LanceR, A-10 Thunderbolt, IAR-99 Hawk, IAR-330 Puma, C-27 J Spartan, the Vlaicu II plane’s replica, the HAWK ground-to-air missile system, the TPS-79R radar, a stand with the educational offer of the Air Force,s and the GEPARD defence systems and the KUB missiles – belonging to the Land Forces, can be viewed in static exhibition.

On Saturday, the military aviators will perform demonstrative flights, individually or in lineup, with MiG-21 LanceR, IAR-99 Hawk, IAR-99, IAK-52, IAR-316B, IAR-330 Puma, C-27 J Spartan, AN-30 and C-130 Hercules aircraft.
