Rompetrol Rafinare invests USD 11 M in environment protection

  • Company spent over USD 600 M on technological projects and environment protection

Rompetrol Rafinare, a member of KMG International, has invested over USD 11 M in the first electrostatic precipitator (ESP) in Romania, an installation that will ensure that its emissions will have a dust concentration that is up to four times lower than the threshold stipulated by the European environment legislation, the company announced.

“The investments of more than USD 600 M in technological and environment projects implemented since 2008 at the Petromidia platform are in line with KMG International’s strategy to bring all activities in line with the highest European quality, safety and environment standards. Boosting the refinery installations’ degree of efficiency and safety, both for employees and for the community in the vicinity of which we conduct our activity, represents a constant preoccupation for us, and by raising the refinery’s processing capacity to 5 million tons and using it to maximum capacity we managed to significantly lower our activities’ impact on the environment,” Rompetrol Rafinare CEO Yedil Utekov stated.

Petromidia is the first refinery in the country that holds the new integrated environment permit. With a 10-year validity, the document attests the fact that Petromidia platform installations are run in line with the highest performance and environment protection standards, and sets at the same time the operational conditions and parameters (level of emissions into the air, water and soil, waste management measures).

KMG International is one of the strongest companies in Romania and an important player in the Black Sea and Mediterranean Sea region, handling major operations in the refining, petrochemical, retail, trading, upstream and industrial services sectors. In Romania, KMG International owns the biggest and one of the most modern refineries in the Black Sea region – Petromidia Navodari, a refinery with an annual refining capacity of over 5 million tons.
