Romanian households saved, on average, RON 231.5 per month in 2014, representing 9.3 per cent of their total incomes, according to the National Statistics Institute’s (INS) “Coordinates of living standards in Romania. Incomes and consumption in 2014” report.
“In 2014 savings stood at an average of RON 231.5 per household per month, representing 9.3 per cent of total incomes. Ordered by categories of households, the situation is the following: employees’ households saved on average 10.5 per cent of their incomes, pensioners’ households 10.7 per cent, farmers’ households 3 per cent, the household of persons self-employed in non-farming activities saved 4.3 per cent, while unemployed persons’ households spent more than they earned, registering a deficit of -0.8 per cent,” the INS informs.
In rural areas the differences between households’ incomes and expenditures stood at 6.2 per cent in 2014, while in urban areas the savings represented on average 11.1 per cent of total incomes. Incomes surpassed expenditures in all regions of the country.
