Short films in the grass, at the Botanic Garden

By the end of July, the city prepares for escape. Short films are screened on the grass, and the Botanic Garden is ready to host the event that will remove viewers from cinema halls to bring them on 8 shorts Anamaria Dascalublankets, out in the open.

The Grand Picnic ShortsUP, the second edition, will take place on Friday, July 24, and on Saturday, July 25, starting at 6 pm. A weekend filled with award-winning short films, live music and games is due to take place in one of the most beautiful green areas in Bucharest.

This year, the ShortsUP Picnic extends for two days and intends to reinterpret the space of the Botanic Garden through film, music, and other arts friendly to cinema. An inflatable screen will be tied between the trees and the welcoming vegetation, to create the capital’s favourite cinema hall of the summer season, with a view to short films and the starry sky.

The wish to escape and travel – two needs deeply rooted in the DNA of the modern man, will be found in the form of comedy, fiction, animation and romance in the film selection of the Grand Picnic. People who did not have yet the opportunity to leave in a vacation will enjoy their portion of liberty in the short films dedicated to travel, presented at ShortsUP. Two different programs will be presented to Friday, July 24, and Saturday, July 25, starting at 9:30 pm and 11:30 pm.

On Friday and Saturday, the audience will be able to explore the Botanic Garden in a series of guided tours between 6 pm and 9:30 pm. The open-air games and picnic snacks will be available as well, gathered in a food-court with diverse option. The music will be enjoyed live on Saturday evening, when viewers will be invited to prolong the delight of cinema through dance. On Saturday, as well, the Botanic Garden will come to life genuinely, by a game of lights inspired by the hundreds of shades of the green area that will surround the event.

To have a comfortable place on the grass, film lovers are advised to come equipped with blankets, and they may also be purchased at the event.

The tickets to the Grand Picnic will be purchased in advance through MyTicket and Eventim at the price of RON 20 / evening but also at the box office of the Garden, at the price of RON 25, in the limit of available seats.

If the weather does not allow viewing films open air, the event will be rescheduled for the immediately following weekend, on Friday, July 31 – Saturday, August 1.

The Grand Picnic ends the series of ShortsUP summer screenings, and short films will return to the roof, in the autumn formula. 2,500 people attended the first edition of the picnic and over 4,000 people viewed the films on the grass of the garden, in the Long Night of Short Films 2014.

The second edition of the Grand Picnic is organized with the support of ARCUB and the Bucharest Mayoralty.

Details about the full show will be found soon on www.shortsup.ro.

ShortsUP will make theme selections with the most award-winning short films in the world: fiction films, animations, documentaries and experimental short films. Short films will be presented to the public each season, during events, and day by day, through the online recommendation platform www.shortsup.ro.

In the last five years, the ShortsUP events have been interactive experiences and non-conventional mixes between film and the rest of the arts.
