The contemporary queen of the fado genre, Dulce Pontes, included Romania in this year’s tour. Therefore, the appreciated artist will perform this autumn in Bucharest, on October 27, at the Palace Hall.

Portuguese singer Dulce Pontes, the artist who performed the vibrant Portuguese sounds of the songs “Caminhos”, “Cancao Do Mar”, “Fado Portugues”,was born in Montijo, Portugal, in 1969. The artist experienced all music genres, performed pop, rock, jazz, classical and traditional music. In 1991, she won Portugal’s National Singing Contest and, at the same year, she represented Portugal at Eurovision. As a nationalist, she promoted from the very moment of her breakthrough the fado genre, considered as “deceased” at that time. She was instantly defined as the rightful successor of the extraordinary singer Amalia Rodrigues, the soul of fado, and Dulce declared herself countless times a great admirer of Amalia’s music.

Her first album “Lusitana”, was launched in 1993, and in the next year, she launched on the market the album “Lagrimas”, that confirmed her international breakthrough. With her second album, Dulce Pontes has become a world star. Her concerts in Spain, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Italy, USA, Japan and Brazil proved the world that Portuguese music still deserves a top position in world charts. The album “Lagrimas” was among the best sold of all times in Portugal and the song “A Cancao do Mar” (initially launched by Amalia Rodrigues in 1955) ended up in Hollywood, on the soundtrack of the film “Primal Fear”, starring Richard Gere; moreover, producer Gregory Hoblit introduced it four times on the soundtrack.

Admired by Paolo Coelho

Dulce has her own way of performing each song, a unique and unforgettable style – the Dulce Pontes style. On the other hand, her personal style and her vocal amplitude her allow her to successfully perform rock, fado or even a song of African influences. Dulce is a complex artist acclaimed worldwide due to her chameleon-like, impressive and varied qualities. Dulce has experienced songs in a great variety of languages, even in Berber. The artist has worked with prestifious artists, such as Jose Carreras, Cesaria Evora and Andrea Bocelli, as well as with the famous Italian composer Ennio Morricone. She confessed that she adores being on stage.

“The concerts are the happiest and most intense moments of my life. It is the sensation of having a divine gift. It is also my reason to live”, Dulce Pontes says about her talent of performing fado.
