Romania-based model and actress Madalina Ghenea was cast in the romantic comedy “Smitten!”, the debut long film by American screenwriter Barry Morrow, who had started shooting on Monday, in Italy. The shooting is scheduled for six weeks.
“Smitten!” is based on a screenplay written by Barry Morrow. He had won an Academy Award for the screenplay of the cult film “Rain Man”, in 1989, and an Emmy Award in 1982, for the screenplay of the television film “Bill” (1981), directed by Anthony Page, starring Mickey Rooney in the lead role, hollywoodreporter.com announces.
The story of the film “Smitten!”, is conceived on four levels, and features a young American director involved in the world of fashion, kidnapped and carried in the Italian Alps by three important members of the Mafia.
Actor Darren Criss, recently nominated for Best Song in the TV series “Glee” (2015), with the song “Dreams Come True/ This Time”, at the Emmy Awards will play his first lead role in a long film, since the music series had ended.
Besides the TV series that had featured him, “Glee” (2010 – 2015) and “Web Therapy” (2013), Darren Criss, aged 28, has voiced several cartoon characters, in productions such as “The Tale of The Princess Kaguya” (2013) and “The Wind Rises” (2013).
In the film “Smitten!”, produced by Julia Rask, David Nichols and Barry Morrow, the cast also includes Spanish actress Angela Molina, aged 60, who has appeared, among other films, in “Los abrazos rotos” (2009), by Pedro Almodovar, and “The Way” (2010), by Emilio Estevez.
Madalina Ghenea, aged 26, has made her acting debut in the Italian comedy “I Soliti Idioti” (2011), directed by Enrico Lando. She has also appeared in the film “Dom Hemingway” (2013), directed by Richard Shepard, as Jude Law’s co-star. Moreover, Madalina Ghenea has won the Sorriso diverso Roma Award in 2012, for her performance in the film “Razzabastarda” (2012), by Alessandro Gassman, an award offered by a cultural association at the 2012 edition of the International Film Festival in Rome. In 2014, she was featured in the TV series “The Borgias”.
Madalina Ghenea’s latest appearance on the big screens was in the film “Youth/ La Giovinezza”, by Paolo Sorrentino, premiered last year in the official competition of the Cannes Film Festival.
