Ilie Nastase leaves PC for UNPR

Senator Ilie Nastase joined the National Union for the Progress of Romania (UNPR) on Wednesday.

“Senator Ilie Nastase has joined UNPR. Ilie Nastase was elected Senator in uninominal college number 8, constituency number 42. Starting on this date, the UNPR MP is part of the PSD group within the Senate,” ziare.com informs quoting a communiqué remitted on Wednesday.

“A wise choice for the future of the country,” Ilie Nastase wrote on Wednesday on his Facebook page.

Ilie Nastase became Senator in May 2014, after he ran in the elections as a member of the Conservative Party (PC).

His term in office is set to end on 18 December 2016 but in June he announced in an interview for L’Equipe Magazine that he plans to give up his parliamentary seat in November.

Ilie Nastase was promoted to the rank of two-star Major General, through a Presidential decree, on 1 December 2008.
