Breath of fresh air for CFR Marfa

* The company will transport coal for the Oltenia Energy Holding in the next three years

CFR Marfa announces the signing of a contract for the transport of coal needed by the Turceni, Craiova II and Isalnita thermal power plants that belong to the Oltenia Energy Holding. According to the rail freight transport company, the contract has been signed for a period of three years.

According to the company’s communiqué, the contract was signed on July 25 and the total quantity of coal that will be transported during the period covered by the contract totals approximately 18 million tons.

Apart from CFR Marfa, which came up with an independent offer, bids were also filed by the association formed by SC Grup Feroviar Roman S.A., SC Unicom Tranzit S.A. and SC Servtrans S.A.

In recent years CFR Marfa has been one of the big losers of tenders organized in this sector, the tenders being won by private companies. Consequently, the state-owned company had and still has significant financial problems that have to be solved in order for it to be prepared for privatization.

CFR Marfa, Romania’s biggest rail freight transport operator, reported a turnover of EUR 212 M and a market share of 54.8 per cent last year.
