Arad City Mayor Gheorghe Falca, Co-president of PNL Arad, informed during a press conference on Tuesday that he would stand for election as mayor of the city for a forth term in the 2016 election. Falca is the only member of the PNL local organisation to have expressed such intention.
Gheorghe Falca made the announcement in the context where the lists of persons who wish to run in the 2016 local election are to be sent to the national bodies of PNL by 3 August, in order for them to enter the internal competition where the final candidacies are set.
‘I am the only candidate in Arad’, Falca said. Falca is currently serving his third term and wishes to stand for election for a forth one.
The mayor added that the current PNL mayors would run in the other towns in the county and that 33 Liberals had announced their intention to run for the county council.
During the same press conference, Gheorghe Falca referred to the situation of Nicolae Iotcu, President of the County Council, who is on remand in an influence peddling case after being caught while taking a bribe of 10,000 euro from a businessman for a works contracts at the Arad County Emergency Hospital.
Gheorghe Falca was referred to court by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) in 2007 for corruption in connection with a property transaction of 2005, but was acquitted by the High Court of Cassation and Justice in 2013.
