The Timis Organisation of the National Liberal Party (PNL) has proposed incumbent Mayor of Timisoara Nicolae Robu as their candidate for a new term as mayor of the city. The Liberals, however, did not propose anyone for president of Timis County Council.
PNL Timis Co-president, Dan Popa, said on Monday that the county organisation had sent to the national leadership of the party a preliminary list of persons who would be supported in the 2016 local elections for the offices of city mayors.
According to the quoted source, the current mayor, Nicolae Robu, is supported for the mayoralty of Timisoara and the President of the PNL Organisation in Lugoj, Ioan Ambrus, for the mayoralty of Lugoj city.
As for the candidates supported for the presidency of Timis County Council, Dan Popa said the party had not made any proposal in the county.
‘We have not completed the list for the county council. Actually, we haven’t even discussed it, because we need to see who will run for county councillors. Then we will choose the best. We have not worried about it. We will support the candidate in the most solid position. There will be a discussion on the County Office’, Popa said.
The co-president of PNL Timis added the lists will remain open until March 2016.
