Gheorghe Nichita back at helm of PSD Iasi

Gheorghe Nichita is back at the helm of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) Iasi, following a decision taken by the members of the party branch’s Permanent Bureau.

He suspended himself from that position three months ago after DNA prosecutors started prosecuting him. Nichita also suspended himself from the position of PSD Vice President back in May.

Gheorghe Nichita stated for Agerpres that “some people’s centrifugal movement” determined him to reconsider his decision.

“Today this situation was analyzed within the Permanent County Bureau, a meeting in which the MPs and PSD Iasi’s interim president Victorel Lupu, as well as the other members, asked me to put an end to my suspension and to return to the party in order to be able to create the necessary dialogue between these party fractions, in order to unite people. Another reason is to start the elections at the County Conference, an event scheduled in the autumn. This is only my problem. I have no other political projects, I have no other thoughts of running because first of all I want to solve my legal situation,” Nichita stated.

Nichita is being investigated by the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) while on conditional bail. He is accused of using Local Police employees to monitor his former lover.
