National Liberal Party (PNL) Co-President Alina Gorghiu criticizes Bucharest Mayor Sorin Oprescu, pointing out that the mayor squandered EUR 10 M on bicycle lanes without actually solving the problem of urban cycling or of Bucharest’s “impossible traffic.”
“Sorin Oprescu will never be the ally of Bucharesters who choose to travel by bicycle in the Capital, nor of those who are waiting for solutions for the city’s impossible traffic. When he feigned interest in the problems of bicyclists he squandered over EUR 10 M on so-called bicycle lanes – in fact mere drawings on the asphalt – which were then closed by the Traffic Police because they were unusable,” Gorghiu wrote on her Facebook page.
She added that she hopes that the candidates’ infrastructure projects and the promotion of the bicycle as a mean of urban transport will matter in the local elections next year.
“I hope that the candidates’ projects on encouraging urban cycling will also matter more in the local elections of 2016: what they plan to do for infrastructure and how they want to promote the bicycle as a mean of urban transport,” Gorghiu added.
