Brigitte Sfat, the wife of former tennis player Ilie Nastase, has become interim president of UNPR’s Timis County branch’s women’s organization, thus following in the footsteps of her husband, who joined UNPR on July 22.
Sfat, born in Timisoara, was appointed head of UNPR Timis’s women’s organization, a position vacated after Ilieana Turdesan was appointed head of the regional Consumer Protection Commissariat. She is interim president since the party’s next congress meeting, held every four years, will take place in 2016.
“I said that anybody can come to our party. We are an open party. Senator Ilie Nastase joined UNPR two weeks ago. His wife wanted to follow in his footsteps and to join UNPR. Being born in Timisoara, having her parents and child here, living most of the time here, she said she would like to work at the level of the Timis branch. The position of president of the women’s organization was vacated. With this appointment, Brigitte also becomes Vice President of UNPR’s National Women’s Organization’s Bureau, also ad interim,” UNPR Timis President Ion Raducanu stated for Adevarul.
He stated he has had a talk with Brigitte Sfat and has already outlined several tasks for her.
“You know that by 2016 we want UNPR to have one million members at national level. We all have tasks, and Brigitte knows what she has to do. Nobody vied over her position, but she wasn’t imposed on it either. There’s work to do here too. I cannot tell you that she will be a good politician. I can’t say that about myself either. I joined UNPR to lend a hand, in order for us to change something. Ilie Nastase is an important name for us. We still have to take Nadia and Hagi to restore the golden trio. Anghel Iordanescu and Rica Raducanu are also party members,” Ion Raducanu added.
