‘Gate of the Kiss’ Festival featuring Socaciu, Seicaru kicks off in Targu-Jiu

The 4th edition of the ‘Gate of the Kiss’ Folk and Ballad Festival kicks off on Friday in Targu-Jiu.

According to Popular School of Art (SPA) spokesperson Iani Garbaciu, the August 7-9 festival will feature performances by contemporary folk singers Victor Socaciu, Andrei Paunescu, Clara Margineanu, Dinu Olarasu, Florin Camen, Vasile Seicaru and Emeric Imre. The latter will also chair the festival’s jury.

The performances will take place on the stage of the Summer Theatre; entrance is free. The festival includes book and folk revival album launches at the city’s shopping center, Garbaciu said.

The winners will be announced in a gala show on Sunday.

The event – named after a famous sculpture of Gorj-born Constantin Brancusi (the Gate of the Kiss, erected in a park of Targu-Jiu) – is organized by SPA Targu-Jiu with the support of Targu-Jiu City Hall, Gorj County Council, Gorj County Centre for the Preservation and Promotion of Traditional Culture, ‘Constantin Brancusi’ Municipal Cultural Centre, ‘Doina Gorjului’ Artistic Ensemble, and ‘Elvira Godeanu’ Drama Theatre.
