Huge tailbacks at Giurgiu-Ruse checkpoint

The Bulgarian border police have been carrying out detailed controls of all types of vehicles since Saturday, which coupled with the repair works being done on the bridge over the Danube River at Giurgiu have been forcing the motorists to wait longer to cross the border, the National Company of Romanian Motorways and Highways announced on Sunday.

The company, therefore, recommends the drivers to use alternative border crossing points to Bulgaria, at Calafat (by road), Bechet (by ferry), Zimnicea (by ferry), Calarasi (by ferry), Negru Voda (by road) and Vama Veche (by road).

“Works are being conducted at Giurgiu checkpoint consisting in the full replacement of the road system (concrete slabs and asphalt layers), with a view to providing easy and safe traffic on that stretch. Once the rehabilitation works began, traffic has been on one lane, which is constantly being monitored by the work contractor in an effort to ensure the traffic safety”, the release said.
