Rough sea with big waves: four drowning victims over weekend

The body of a man who had gone missing while swimming in the Black Sea was washed ashore in city of Mangalia on Sunday.

The man was employed at Mangalia Daewoo Shipyard and lived in a hostel made available by the employer.

Also on Sunday, a 17-year-old young man holidaying in Neptun was in danger of drowning, but the rescuers managed to pull him out of the water and the ambulance doctors succeeded in resuscitating him. The victim was taken to Mangalia Municipal Hospital.

On the same day, the teams of Dobrogea Inspectorate for Emergencies resumed the search for a young man supposed to have gone missing in the sea at Constanta’s Modern beach.

The spokesperson for Constanta County Ambulance Service Dr. Claudia Tatarici told Agerpres that the ambulance had been called for 17 possible drowning cases in the seaside resorts from Friday till early Sunday; four persons were declared dead.

Also still missing is an 18-year-old who was spending his holiday in Costinesti.

Although the sea is rough, with big waves and strong currents and the sea rescue squads had been flying red flags warning the tourists to stay out of the water, many of them keep ignoring the warnings.
