Traffic on the Sibiu airport increased by over 32 percent in the first half of the year, shows the latest report published by the airport trade body Airport Council International (ACI) Europe, which includes statistical data for all types of civil aviation passenger flights on European airports: network, low cost, charter and others.
The Sibiu International Airport ranks second in Group 2 – airports welcoming less than five million passengers annually.
After the growth registered in Q1 2015, figures show the upward trend stays on in the second consecutive quarter. In absolute numbers, 137,896 passengers were handled on the Sibiu airport in the first half of the year.
“To maintain the same trend, following steps taken to promote our traffic potential to airlines on connections with Italy, Spain, France, the airport administration and the Sibiu County Council are considering resuming as of this fall tender procedures for opening new flight routes,” Marius Girdea, Sibiu International Airport CEO told Agerpres.
Previous to the organization of tender procedures, airlines were given access to the data needed for making a decision and for prioritizing the opening of new air connections with the help of special software for working out and submitting business plans tailored to the needs of each of these companies.
