Vaslui rape: All seven indicted young men sentenced to prison. Court decides to issue 30-day arrest warrants

All seven youths of Valeni accused of raping a student in November 2014 were sentenced to prison in a first trial by the Court of Vaslui.

The prison sentences of the seven vary from 5 years and 8 months and 8 years and four months.

The court also decided on Monday to issue 30-day arrest warrants on the names of the seven young men, thus replacing the judicial control measure.

The conviction refers to actions that took place on November 10, 2014, around 19:00, when a pupil met in Vaslui County with two young men who offered to drive her home. The two drove on a field nearby Valeni, where they have called some other four friends and had sex with the victim against her will. Subsequently, the youths drove to another field, near another locality, Moara Domneasca, where they have called another young man who forced the young woman to have sex with him.

“Around 22:30, the young men have drove the victim to her home and recommended she say nothing about what had just happened. At home, the girl told her parents, who called the Police by dialing the emergency number 112. They also called for an ambulance, the victim being transported to the Vaslui County Emergency Hospital for medical care” according to the spokesperson of the Vaslui County Police Inspectorate, Mihaela Straub.

On June 19, 2015, the Vaslui Court magistrates have decided to replace the house arrest measure with the judicial control in the case of the seven young men, sparking public outcry and a public investigation into the validity of the decision.
