Defence Minister: Deveselu Base works on schedule, to be finalised in Sept.-Oct.

The works at Deveselu Base are on schedule and are nearing completion, so that they will be finalised in September-October and the deadlines set with the U.S. partner will be observed, National Defence Minister Mircea Dusa told Agerpres on Wednesday.
“I paid a visit to Deveselu Base together with the Defence Ministry staff concerned, because I wanted to see the phase in the conduct of the works, particularly the ones our ministry is responsible for. I also visited the anti-missile system base. The works are on schedule, they are nearing completion, all the works will be actually finalised in September-October so that the deadlines set with the U.S partner will be observed”, the minister said.
Dusa underscored that finalised so far at Deveselu are the works on the rural town’s infrastructure, with the local authority having already built a sewage treatment unit on the money assigned by the Romanian Government.
“The Government also allotted money for the extension of the drinking water network in the area where the missile system will function and I can tell you that the sewage treatment unit at Deveselu has been finalised by the local authority on the state budget money. All the conditions are in place for the missile system at Deveselu to become operational according to schedule”, the minister stressed.
The President of Romania, on May 3, 2011, publicly announced the decision of the Romanian Supreme Defence Council to host the Romanian-based components of the U.S. ballistic missile defence system at Deveselu Military Base, in Olt County. On Sept. 13, 2011, the Romanian Foreign Minister and the U.S. Secretary of State signed in Washington the Agreement between Romania and the United States of America on the Deployment of the United States Ballistic Missile Defence System in Romania, at Deveselu.
The document was ratified by the Parliament of Romania by the Law no. 290/2011, which took effect on Dec. 23, 2011.
The main building works on the Missile Facility at Deveselu Military Base began on Oct. 28, 2013 and the implementation framework of the Agreement was finalised on July 29, 2014 (14 Implementation Arrangements/Amendments to the Implementation Arrangements).
