Gorghiu: PNL’s bank accounts are blocked

The National Liberal Party (PNL) is in debt and its bank accounts are blocked, PNL co-chair Alina Gorghiu said Tuesday.
“We have a problem with the party’s debt. We have a problem with restructuring. Our bank accounts are blocked,” Gorghiu told B1 tv private broadcaster.
She added that she has accepted the past of the party, with both the good and the bad.
“This is no debt under my watch, but I accept it all. I am responsible for solving administrative issues as well. (…) We are trying to get things to a happy conclusion. The good thing about party funding in Romania’s politics is that there will be a transparent electioneering campaign. There will no longer be that vicious circle when a businessman would come to the party’s yard to make a donation more or less obscure in exchange for some governmental office later on,” added Gorghiu.
She said that as far as the defectors of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) are concerned, no decision has been taken yet on whether or not to welcome them to PNL, adding that some of her colleagues made some hasty comments about that.
