Romania’s Chitu wins silver in World Judo Championships 52kg category

Romanian athlete Andreea Chitu won the silver medal in the women’s 52kg category at the World Judo Championships in Astana (Kazakhstan), after losing in the final to Japan’s Misato Nakamura. Nakamura was world champion in 2009 and 2011, and vice-champion in 2010 in Tokyo. Last year, Chitu made it to the final of the 2014 World Judo Championships in Chelyabinsk, Russia, but lost to Kosovo’s Majlinda Kelmendi. Chitu was granted direct access to the second round, where she defeated by ippon Tunisia’s Hela Ayari. Also in the women’s 52 kg category, Romanian Larisa Florian defeated Vietnam’s Quynh Nguyen Thi in the first round, but eventually lost to Kazakh Lenaria Mingazova.
