World’s biggest hopscotch by number of participants to be organized in Cismigiu Park on September 12

On September 12, Cismigiu Park will host “The biggest hopscotch in the world by number of participants,” a reference event of the JUNIOR HOP European project. There will be 100 hopscotch courses and a minimum of 2,000 participants – children, teenagers, young and elderly people, as well as Romanian personalities.
In parallel, there will be athletic demonstrations given by sports clubs and federations invited to the event. The audience will be thrilled to watch spectacular cheerleading, fencing, judo, karate, kaisendo, shotocan karate, kobudo, artistic and aerobic gymnastics, sports, modern and Latino dance demonstrations. Moreover, hockey teams will simulate a hockey game on roller-skates! World and European fencing, judo, gymnastics, basketball, handball and athletics champions have announced their presence at the event! Romania’s champions, young and old alike, will not only play hopscotch but will also give the first “concert” of Romanian sports through the artistic-athletic programme they will prepare.
The JUNIOR HOP project is partially financed by the European Commission, through the Erasmus+ Programme, Collaborative Partnerships Action in Sports, and was born from the passion for sports of a group of organizations that want to tackle a European problem, namely child obesity, by promoting sport volunteering but also physical activity. The JUNIOR SPORT Association is the initiator of this project alongside its partners from Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey and the Czech Republic, who joined forces and will encourage children’s involvement in sport activities.
The JUNIOR HOP project started in June 2015. More than 200 members of sport organizations, 2,500 children and 50 youth sport workers are expected to get involved in it.
The JUNIOR SPORT Association, a non-governmental organization that plans to get children involved in sport and in any form of physical activity in general, started its activity in 2011 and launched the pilot issue of the JUNIOR SPORT magazine in 2012 – the first children’s publication in Romania dedicated to sport education and culture.
“Romania is 3rd in Europe in child obesity. What do we do?” seminar
Part of the same JUNIOR HOP project, the international seminar titled “Romania is 3rd in Europe in child obesity. What do we do?” will take place the day before the world’s biggest hopscotch.
The JUNIOR SPORT and U.N.E.F.S. Association organizes this event. The event will also be attended by the international partners of the JUNIOR HOP European Project: the Physical Education and Sport Science School in Thessaloniki, Greece; the Association for the Development of Sport and Sport Culture in Footura, Bulgaria; the Mugla Srtki Kocman Physical Education and Sport University, Turkey; the Hodina H Association, Czech Republic. The international seminar will showcase scientific papers on the theme proposed, points of view from experts in nutrition, physical education and sports, sport training, presentations of cases and real statistics on child obesity etc.
Likewise, the abovementioned foreign partners will present the situation in their countries.
The organizers point out in a press release that a documentary film – “The ABC of movement” – and a book – “Guide of movement” – will be released in December. The English-language book and the 4-minute documentary film will promote the importance of movement from the earliest age.
